Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
