Omaha Hi Low: Basic Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but favored poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better begins like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A sequence of betting follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. Another round of betting ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of wagering follows and then the river card is flipped. The gamblers will have to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many entrants can get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize exactly three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same approach in just about all poker games.

A lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand wins the entire pot.

It may seem difficult at the start, after a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the basic subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha High-Low offers an amazing range of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have several players battling for the high, as well as many battling for the low. If you enjoy a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha Hi-Lo.
